Day One: What is CNC and Why Are People Into That?!

Which forms of kink, BDSM, and fetish play can be defined by the seemingly paradoxical term consensual non-consent? When is CNC the main course, the amuse bouche, the spice? What kind of play is decidedly not CNC? For those who are into it, why are they into it, and what are some good ways to interrogate why they’re into it? For those who are into it, how do they explore and practice it? How do they communicate with new partners, existing partners, or clients about their interest? How does power dynamic change for tops, bottoms, and switches? We’ll also hear from clinical researchers who will do some myth busting for us. 

Day Two: Scene Ideas and Dirty Talk

Utilizing archetypal roles and relational power dynamics, we’ll categorize at least 25 versatile scene ideas and types of play that are ideal for exploring CNC. We’ll also detail the kind of filthy language that can turn any scene into a CNC scene. From authority figures to toxic love, blackmail to torture, ravishment to the supernatural, this lecture will generate prompts and ideas for years to come.

Day Three: The Evolving Politics and Ethics of CNC

From Yes Means Yes to #MeToo, consent culture is evolving to interrogate and complicate the lived realities of abuse and assault. Yet with every new orthodoxy comes new shapes of the verboden. Why would we want to play without tools like safewords? Does negotiation really take the fun out of play? Do we need to prove that CNC is healing in order for it to be ethical? How can we tell is the language of CNC is being weaponized for abuse? Is a post-rape utopia possible, and would CNC have a role in that future? In this lecture we will go deep on the unspeakable.

Every session will be an hour long presentation followed by half hour facilitated group discussion and Q&A

There will also be an in-person Meet and Greet discussion session at a secret location in Northeast Los Angeles. Space is limited to facilitate an intimate discussion, so this portion is only available for the first ten SoCal-based students to sign up for this course. The Meet and Greet is $25 and will be available as an Add-On at check out. 

Who is this intensive for?

Pervs and pros. The curious and the inquisitive. Tops, bottoms, and switches. All genders. Seasoned players will get tons of new skills and insight. Newbies are welcome, too: a Tina Horn Guide to BDSM Basics PDF will be sent out before class so we can assume familiarity with certain terms and how I define them within leather lineage.

My classes center queer leather experience and are designed to be equally useful for personal and professional play. My classes are always anti-racist and anti-fascist. I’m an experienced facilitator; community agreements will be clear, and disrespectful behavior will be dealt with ruthlessly.

Why a CNC intensive?

CNC has been one of my most popular workshop and podcast topics over the past five-ten years. Even after writing a 10K word chapter on it for my new book Why Are People Into That: A Cultural Investigation of Kink, I’m still discovering new intellectual and emotional complexities to this controversial subject.

So I decided to offer a three part intensive: part lecture, part group discussion. We will cover consent politics, relationship ethics, cultural history, and erotic fantasy with a harm reduction framework. 

This intensive is for anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of CNC and kink desire, boundaries, negotiation, communication, fantasy, archetypes, aftercare, and much more!

Every time I teach this workshop I feel like I’m only scratching the surface. And there seems to be a hunger for this topic. I trust we’ll figure out why together!
